Over this period there have been highs and lows but they also show that the River still compares well with the 1930s and the 1960s, two periods that fishing folk tend to reminisce about.

Muren and Lower Bank, the two beats below the waterfall are regarded by some as one of the top 4 salmon fishing locations in Norway with a return of some 700 fish for the year (2011) for both banks. The four kilometres of mostly double bank fishing above the waterfall provides unspoilt and in places challenging fishing with good wading in lower water and boats on 5 beats to cover higher water conditions.

The largest fish caught on Osen’s water in 2019 was 14.4kg (32 lbs). Most people who have fished the river for a number of years have caught fish in the region of 15 kgs.

In a typical year 70% of fish caught are salmon and their average size is 5 kgs (11 lbs).
