The Ladder

For over 150 years, the Osen Salmon Ladder has stood as a testament to both ingenuity and preservation
Built in 1870, this carefully engineered structure has stood the test of time, providing a vital passage for salmon on their upstream migration. Spanning an impressive 60-foot ascent, the ladder is designed with 20 strategically placed steps, allowing the fish to bypass the otherwise impassable waterfall.
As they make their way through each level, the salmon demonstrate remarkable endurance and instinct, ultimately reaching the pristine upper reaches of the river, where they continue their journey to spawn.
This historic ladder remains an essential part of the river’s ecosystem, preserving the natural cycle of life in these waters for generations.
